WOD Weekend

Rest days.

Get it Done.

Rest is sometimes overlooked as a part of fitness.  The truth is that rest is crucial to fitness.  If your body does not receive an adequate amount of rest it will end up failing in the long run.  When the body exercises it uses energy and tears your muscles, called micro trauma. When the body doesn't get enough rest, it starts to run off of reserve energy and soon after that any energy it can find.  Your body will begin to break down muscle in order to get energy, and in the game of CrossFit, that is the last thing you need.  What you end up doing is tearing up your muscles in the workout, as well as breaking it down at the same time.   That is why one of the symptoms of over training is weakness.  Rest helps replenish your energy stores and rebuild muscle.  It gives your body some down time to recover and restore.  When you do have micro trauma after a workout, your body will rebuild your muscles stronger.  So you're not getting weaker on those rest days; you're letting your body get stronger.  So get your rest in.
