Who are you when nobody’s watching? How do you act? What do you do? Do you do the right thing, even when you’re by yourself?

Integrity is something we are working on teaching our sons, as well as our kids’ class at CFC. It shouldn’t matter if someone is watching you… you should always strive to do the right thing.

Whether it’s movements in a workout, telling the truth, returning the lost items, cleaning up after yourself… do the right thing, even when nobody’s around.

I know it can be easy to cut corners, especially when nobody is watching. I know it can be easy to shave a rep or two off the workout when you’re by yourself. I know it can be easy to count a movement as good when you know it wouldn’t count if someone is watching.

But life isn’t meant to be easy. Hold yourself accountable. Do the hard things, even when you’re by yourself. Always strive to have integrity… doing the right thing is always the right thing. Even and especially when nobody is watching.

Nick always jokes on me because I do this to myself, especially in my every day workouts. Just last week, we were doing box jumps and I landed on the edge of the box without having much control. I came to full extension but was falling backwards off the box at the same time. I no repped myself and did an extra rep before finishing the workout.

It’s hard to do that when you’re tired and you want to be done with the workout. But I know that wouldn’t have counted in a competition or the Open. I know my movement wasn’t up to the standards. So I made sure to do it again and make it count.

That’s the thing… there are standards for just about anything in life. And yes, holding yourself to them is easy when someone is watching or counting on you. But what happens when no one is around? How do you act when you’re alone? Do you still hold yourself to those standards?

Set your standards. Hold yourself accountable. Have some integrity. And always do the right thing, even when nobody is watching. Especially when nobody is watching.

Have a great week.
